The information presented here is as of February 6, 2024.
Itinerary times are subject to change. We will update this content periodically leading up to the wedding.
Here you will find recommendations for departures out of:
- Toronto
- Ottawa
- Montreal
Note the itineraries below consider travel advisories (and family advisories) that avoid arriving late at night. However, should a night arrival best suit you, we have recommendations in the Hotel section of this website for where to stay near the airport as an interim option upon arrival. Alternately you can confirm with your hotel of choice that they can pick you up with a shuttle. Taxis at night are not recommended.
Please also note when selecting an itinerary that the airport is located approximately 30 minutes away from the city when there is no traffic. Rush hour times (i.e., morning and afternoon commute times) make that trip approximately 1 hour. Though Quito is a thriving metropolis and it is best to always assume there is traffic.
Have questions? Don't hesitate to ask us. We are happy to help.
Avianca Airlines is the most reliable in our experience - that is no delays, no cancellations, no baggage issues, and they usually leave earlier than planned. They travel to and from Quito 7 days per week which easily accommodates a variety of travel options. Prices shown are in US dollars.
Recommended departure from Toronto:
11:50pm (23:50) with connection through Bogota on the 10 hour itinerary, arriving 9:05am. Sleep on the plane and you have just enough time to try some Colombian coffee in the morning before hopping onto the Quito connection.
Recommended departure from Quito:
10:15am with connection through Bogota on the 11 hour itinerary, arriving 10:15pm (22:15).
Quito traffic is no joke, you will still need to leave at 7:00am (maybe earlier) to catch this flight. You will have time to enjoy a lunch in Bogota airport before departing home.
There is an alternate option that leaves Quito Airport at 4:05am and arrives in Toronto at 3:10pm on a 10 hour itinerary. This requires heading to the airport at 2:15am. Please contact us if you book this flight and we will arrange transportation to the airport for you.
Other options:
Copa Airlines - flies between Quito and Toronto 7 days per week.
Depart Toronto at 9:06am and arrive in Quito at 5:36pm on a 9 hour and 30 minute itinerary.
Depart Quito at 2:10pm and arrive Toronto at 1:03am on a 10 hour itinerary.
Air Canada - operates with Avianca on the exact same itineraries, but useful if you want to fly with points.
Air Canada offers service to Quito via Avianca. It connects to Toronto with Air Canada and then links you up with Avianca for the rest of the journey.
Avianca is the most reliable in our experience - that is no delays, no cancellations, no baggage issues, and they usually leave earlier than planned.
We unfortunately can't say the same about Air Canada. A late or missed connection could cost you a day of the trip. Should you decide to take this route, our advice is to select an itinerary that leaves room for delays between Ottawa and Toronto. Prices vary significantly here and the earlier you book, the better. We also recommend you price compare what the departure would be from Montreal or Toronto with the costs associated to getting there, as this route can be pricey.
Recommended departure from Ottawa:
5:00pm (17:00) or 7:00pm (19:00) arriving in Quito at 9:05am. This will leave enough time to go through international departures in Toronto, get some dinner, sleep on the plane, and enjoy breakfast with some Colombian coffee in the morning before hopping onto the Quito connection.
Not recommended departure from Quito:
4:35am arriving 10:06pm (22:06).
This is what is available if you book round trip with Air Canada. This requires heading to the airport at 2:30am. Please contact us if you book this flight and we will arrange transportation to the airport for you.
Flying with other airlines out of Ottawa requires multiple connections with a very early departure and a late arrival. The day is long.
If the Air Canada route doesn't work for you, we strongly recommend departing from Montreal or Toronto. See the Montreal and Toronto sections for recommended itineraries.

Don't mind the connections? United Airlines can get you to Quito from Ottawa.
